ENGLISH

Hey people. Have a difficulty on learning Contrastive statement? Well then. I would like to highlight our matter, that explain about the usage of Although, Even Though, Though, Despite and In spite Of.

See the example below:

  • Although it happened last year, she could not forget it until now.
  • Despite his bad behavior, his mom always forgave his fault.
  • In spite of the better taste, I prefer Boston Fried Chicken than Funky Fried Chicken.
  • Even though I said I was alright, actually I wasn’t quite good.

So, we can consider and take conclusion, that:

Although / even though are followed by: SENTENCES

Despite / In spite of are followed by: NOUN PHRASE

One note for you Though is also another form of contrast conjunction that often used. But the difference is located in the placing of the conjunction. That is at the end of the sentences. Like: He seems so nerd. He is hot, though.

But somehow there are some other examples of contrast conjunction that can be used to replace those ones. For example: Even if, No matter how, whatever, and However. The usage and the placing will be the same, except Whatever.

· However the bad weather is, I will come to your party.
· Even if he wouldn’t live anymore, she had already let him go.
· No matter bad your mark is, I appreciate your effort.
· I will go to Kyoto whatever it causes.

Something that you have to notice is the form of the sentences. USE TO BE IN THE END OF THE SENTENCES. So, it will be like the third example.

So, this is my frank brief explanation about contrast conjunction. Hopefully it will be much helpful for y’all. HAVE A BLAST PEOPLE!
